Susanne: Samples

November 26, 2008

Thought I’d post some samples of my work. Me and Mattias have been busy printing our images and they turned out better than I had hoped for. Tonight will be all about frames and passepartouts!

Last image I’ll be showing before the exhibition, and this is only part of it.

I already asked Raquel to turn into a werewolf for me. For this one, I asked if she could turn into some other kind of classic monster. And so this is the result (it was a bit scary, but she’s ok now):

Raqqemonster goes Little (un)Dead Riding Hood.

This image, when complete, will also be the first appearance of my interpretation of Grandma. Don’t miss it (at Panora this Saturday)!

Jamil: Tube It

November 24, 2008

At the beginning of this project I was surfing around for some inspiration. What I ended up with was a lot of pure entertainment.

Check out some of my findings:

A nice piece of animation, “Red riding hood”:

Mattias: Getting closer…

November 24, 2008

Been listening to Wolf Eyes while working on images 4 and 5.

I think they’re done now, but I’m only going to show one of them here. Have to save something for the actual exhibition. So here it is. Raquel wrestling the Wolf.

Now I just need to figure out what’s going to be in the last one. Deadline’s getting closer and I also want to finish the next Piracy is Liberation graphic novel this week…

Oh well…

Susanne: The process

November 19, 2008

I’ve tried to analyze the creative process of making pictures in order to post something useful on the subject in this blog. It’s been more complicated than I could ever imagine it to be. Naturally, when it comes to creativity there are no laws or universal truths to apply, only the never ending variety of minds and hearts of the persons creating. So, I thought I’d just start with myself and my work, that should be easy – right? Turns out, all of the pictures I’ve made for Panorama have been created in different moods and with different kinds of music pouring out of my crappy computer speakers. Sometimes I drank wine and chatted away on msn while working in photoshop. Sometimes I got up early in the morning and forced myself to create. Some pictures came easy and some I had to trick for several days before they caved in. All in all it’s been a very fun and stimulating process which – to my surprise – now has come to an end since I laid the last layer in the final picture just minutes ago. (Details from all six pictures coming soon.) It’s a nice feeling of relief when you’re done with a project, but also bittersweet as are all things that end. Luckily the process of creating does not.

Jamil: The basic idea

November 13, 2008

Here’s an update on my progress.

First things first: Ouch. Since drawing and cutting in linoleum all day isn’t exciting enough for me, I stabbed myself in my left hand. I don’t know if it really improved my work that much, and on top of that I almost fainted. Seriously. What can I say? I’m a wimp.

Getting pale faced at the sight of blood… If the wolf had seen me then, he would surely have swalloved me whole.

Ouch

So, a few words on what I’m doing, besides cutting myself. I’m creating the art work for this exhibition using one of the most basic printing techniques, linoleum print. When I was a youngling roaming uncharted waters, I worked a period of time in a print shop in Göteborg. All day I hung around enormous japanese printing presses, and listened to (couldn’t avoid in fact) the merry melodies that automatically played every time there was a change of printing plates. That’s why I like the idea of taking it back to the basics with the crafty technique of linoleum cutting.

The first step is thinking and sketching, and it might turn out something like this:

Wolf

Then begins the life threatening cutting:

Cut

That’s all I have to say for the moment. More to come…

Mattias: No need for hunters.

Susanne: First things first

November 11, 2008

Just thought I’d give you all a quick sneak peak of what I’ve been up to for the last few weeks. Three images done so far for the exhibition and I’ll comment on them  – and the process of making them – later on, but first things first, here’s my firstborn:

panorama011

Another one done. It may or may not evolve more before the exhibition goes up. It’s often hard to know just after something gets completed. Sometimes it gets completed all over again, sometimes it stays the way it is.

redhood02mouthWhatever. Obviously, there were some complications with this one too. Just climbing into the big bad wolfmouth to get to the right angle to draw from. Then keeping Raquel’s voice hanging in the air like that long enough to get it on paper. I’m telling you, I had to work fast on this one.

The Wolf goes by the name of Madness for this one, for referential reasons.

Today’s questions, to take home and think about, are these: Is Granma in reality a wolf? Was she a wolf all along? And why is her mouth so fucking big?
